This morning's breakfast: tomato-basil omelet with feta cheese. Here's the work in progress:
And here's the finished product:
My omelets always turn out so messy, I guess they're more like frittatas. I'm considering calling them omtatas, but frittomelets has a better ring to it. I've almost finished my first carton of eggs from Winter Grass Farm in Holland Patent. I'm trying to save my remaining carton to hard-boil; I've been told the Winter Grass eggs are so fresh you have to wait a couple weeks or up to a month before you stand any chance of peeling them. In the near future I'll have a post all about eggs where I'll explain more about that.
Lunch was an encore presentation of my feta and cider vinegar dressing. It was tasty again, but not as delicious as yesterday when it was spiked with the relief of never having to eat my yucky yogurt dressing again.
Today's culinary adventure was garlic mashed potatoes, I was working off an Alton Brown recipe, but I left the skins on and minced my garlic instead of crushing it. Accompanied by corn on the cob and a black bean veggie burger, this dinner was too good to let even the crumbs go to waste. Oh, and in answer to a comment on the blog, the black beans are from Cayuga Pure Organics in Brooktondale, NY; I get them through the Foodshed.
After dinner I was confronted with another August natal day celebration. The cake was white on white, and while this monochromatic dessert is a favorite of half my family, I felt little temptation to sample this treat from lands far away. I celebrated with Montezuma's rhubarb wine. It was another 8 out of 10, I was hoping for more because it was half the size and twice the price of the other Montezumas.
The handsome man in the background is the birthday boy - Happy Birthday, Sarge! The handsome boy in the foreground is my nephew, who along with his sisters invented ice cream soup this evening.
Thanks for all your comments and support, please spread the word! (Facebook, email, Twitter, a hand-written letter to a friend?)
Those are 2 of the most handsome men I've ever seen!!
