Stop the presses! This morning things got crazy: I switched from vanilla yogurt and blueberries to vanilla yogurt and blackberries!
This wasn't much of a breakfast, and picking up three dogs from a kennel during a thunderstorm is enough to work up a hunger in anyone. For lunch I had corn bread topped with butter and peach salsa.
With all my travels this past weekend I once again forgot to place my order at the Foodshed Sunday night. I think I have enough flour to last two weeks, but unfortunately the Foodshed is my hook-up for vanilla yogurt from Maple Hill Creamery. The Co-op in Little Falls and Tom's Natural Foods in Clinton both carry Maple Hill, but they never seem to have vanilla.
First stop today was Fly Creek Cider Mill. As of this morning I was down to three apples and a glass and a half of cider. I replenished supplies of both and picked up some hard cider. Last night when I arrived home from camp I was chilly from the rain so I warmed some cider on the stove with mulling spices - my taste buds are still thanking me today. You're welcome, guys. I thought this would be fun to try with a little kick to it.
Next stop was Mountain View Dairy for more raw milk. I picked up two gallons, and had a glass as soon as I got home, with a piece of maple candy. Maple candy and milk are my new peanut butter and jelly.
I had a small dinner of snacks. I started with a smoked swiss from Tom's Natural Foods, and although I could taste the smokiness, it wasn't a great snacking cheese.
Turns out it was a great snacking cheese, it just needed a little something under it. I sliced tomato, sprinkled salt on it, and melted the swiss over top. Once every fifty times that I go off on my own and stray from recipes it ends up being delicious. This was one of those times. If there were more than three ingredients involved I'd pull a muscle patting myself on the back.
Although the early August birthday extravaganzas have ended, there are many family get-togethers this week; I stopped by dinner tonight and had some corn on the cob. Another glass of milk when I got home and I was full for the night.
